Following our meetings with Iain Freeland and Tim Jenner, Her Majesty’s Inspectors and Ofsted’s subject leads for Geography and History respectively, members of the Humanities 20:20 steering group had another constructive discussion this time with Richard Kueh, Her Majesty’s Inspector and Ofsted’s subject lead for Religious Education.
We shared the thinking behind Humanities 20:20 and our work to emphasise the role of the humanities in a broad and balanced primary curriculum. We discussed our views on the teaching of the humanities and the need to develop greater expertise in RE among teachers in primary schools. We discussed the challenges currently facing primary schools, especially in relation to Religious Education; and ways in which teachers and headteachers are responding to these.
We heard from Richard Kueh about the issues currently facing Religious Education and the work he and other colleagues have been undertaking to support high-quality teaching of Religious Education in primary schools.
We are now planning to meet with the subject lead for Citizenship if possible.
